Natural Products: Bath and Body
Our Hand Wash & Shower Gel may appear expensive compared to many liquids on the market sold as Soap. Some 'Soaps' are in fact synthetic detergents and may be derived from crude petroleum. Even detergents said to be derived from 'natural' fatty alcohols may start with natural fatty oils but they are then heavily processed to convert them to alcohols. These alcohols are then treated with things like ethylene oxide and sulphuric acid. The end products are far from natural and they certainly aren't soap!
How is our liquid soap made?
Organic Sunflower & Coconut oils are heated with potassium hydroxide resulting in neutralisation of the alkali by the oil to produce soap and glycerine. The glycerine is left in the soap to act as a moisturising humectant. No high energy chemical reactions, no toxic ethylene oxide, no corrosive sulphuric acid.
Soaps have been made in this way for at least 2000 years with little evidence of adverse skin reaction. In contrast, synthetic detergents have been used in personal care products for about 50 years with well documented adverse reactions such as eczema.
