Environmental Excellence Gold Award … read more

We were amazed and delighted in March 2011 to win the Gold Environmental Excellence award at the CBEN awards ceremony sponsored by the North West Environment Agency. This accolade means that of over 60 businesse achieving the Gold standard we were judged to have made an outstanding effort over and above the level required.

See our Environmental Policy.

Principles before Profit
It’s probably because we are a couple of aging hippies, but we think that the world is an amazingly beautiful place and we want to do our best to keep it that way. We firmly believe that principles come before profit and we take responsibility for the impact of our business operations. We know that we are not perfect but, with the help of CBEN, we have developed an Environmental Management System and a plan for ongoing improvement:

Sustainable Ingredients

Wherever possible we use organic ingredients and our formulas were developed to make use of ingredients derived from sustainable sources with the minimum amount of processing.

Responsible packaging
Our long term aim is to use 100% recycled or 100% renewable packaging. We have recently introduced 250ml 100% recycled PET plastic bottles and our 55g jars are made from recycled glass.
We use the most easily recyclable materials that we can get. For example we use PET bottles with PE labels and PP caps. These are the most easily recyclable plastics available and are accepted by most plastic recycling centres. If there isn’t one near you then you can return them to us and we will recycle them.

Packaging is kept to a minimum

This has the double benefit of cutting down on waste and costs enabling us to keep the price of our products down too. Our mailing bags are now biodegradable and bubble wrap soon will be. We haven’t managed to find suitable options made from a sustainable source yet but we will keep searching….

Ethical Business
Everyday we see images of thousands of people who have so little and it makes us realise how fortunate we are to live in a plentiful society. This drives us to keep examining our processes to find ways to reduce the things we waste. It is not just more responsible - it makes good business sense because reducing waste cuts costs.

Giving something back
Last but not least we want to use some of our profits to support environmental and social charities. It is now coming to light that, because of population and industrial growth, the rising demand for freshwater will become a problem and we have chosen to start with the Nurture Lakeland ‘Experience the Rivers’ project to make a tiny contribution to keeping the freshwater we have clean.
